Birthday Parties

Ask my husband. Every time one of the kids' parties rolls around, I always have to ask, "do we have to invite adults to the birthday party of Paul/Kevin?" Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't like throwing parties (well, I guess, deep down, I really don't, hahahaha!), but I guess I get caught up in wondering what other people think about the parties we throw. And I feel that I'm "strange" when I don't like "noisy" parties with hosts yelling into the mics (what the heck is a mic for if not to echo your voice, so they don't really need to yell, do they???), I don't like mascots (think they look stupid), and I don't like getting lootbags only filled with candies, chocolate and junk food inside.

So call me scrooge. For Paul's first birthday (had no choice, he's the first grandkid on both sides, we HAD to throw him a party), we had an Easter egg hunt at home. We hired a bubble guy (some person who made HUGE bubbles), but it was basically a DIY party. I bought balloons and lootbag fillers (toy cars mostly and sandbox toys) in Divisoria. And my mom baked chocolate chip cookies (which I felt was a better alternative to junk food). Stan hosted the egg hunt and the candle blowing, it was a pretty cozy deal. But since it was his first, we had to invite e-v-e-r-y-o-n-e, and by that, I meant Stan's entire family (which is not small), and my family (which is by far smaller than his). Looking back, it was fun (sige na nga!) anyway, but if it were up to me, I'd have it otherwise. I mean, hey, did Paul actually recall it? 'course not! Then I had my day when it was Kevin's two years ago. So, what was my idea of a birthday party? I invited a few of Paul's friends (kasi Kevin didn't have friends yet) from Explorations, took out the toys and had an entire afternoon of play at home. We had a birthday cake (something that was truly tasty rather than nice to look at) and some cheese sticks and pasta and barbeque--your standard party fare. We blew up some balloons and had a few "Happy Birthday" (from National Bookstore!) streamers too. Paul had real fun. So did Kev--following his Kuya around. But then, the kids are bigger. Paul actually has ideas of his own for his party--"Mom, let's have it at home, not at the park because it's hot there", "Mom, I'll make my own invitation cards, and I'll write 'please bring a gift'" (horrors!), "Mom, let's invite my friends only okay?",  "Mom, I want a Pooh cake, and a lot of balloons, and some Blue's Clues decors" (nightmare of the party planner!). I guess what's most important is that they have fun. I'm glad that Paul's actually interested in preparing his own party. I wonder if it's for the company or the gifts. Well, your guess is as good as mine. =)

Birthday Party at the school

Hello everyone! I need your ideas about celebrating birtday party at the school. It's my son's first time to go to school (not sure yet what school : OB Montesorri Greenhills or First Step of Meriam College- Deadline tomorrow!) and he ll be turning 3 years old na this July 14. I have a feeling that nobody among his classmates would celebrate their parties before him kaya wala kong mapag kokopyahan. I heard they only use the snack period! What should i do kaya? Should i get him cake pa so they could sing for him or pack meals na lang... kelangan ba may lootbags pa? What should I put in it? I don't agree with the candies and junk foods too!

birthday party at school

Hi, Deniz_0213, We used to celebrate our kids' parties at school too. First you should ask if they allow it. (Some don't.) If they do, let me tell you what we did --- just bring packed meals (your choice if you want to make it at home or to buy from fast food), and some giveaways. Once I gave water tumblers. Another time, cups. Something simple lang that they can use. =)

Re: birthday party at school

Hello, jencct, I really appreciate all your comments (they make sense to me =)) School said I could only use the snack time period. I wish I could make it as simple as packed meals (as I have also thought doing so before) kaso lang styrofoam/dispossables are not allowed. They want us to use something r eusable ( as in stainless spoons and forks / ceramics or melaware plates) to support the school's Solid WAste Management Program and the Waste Reduction Program. Even tetrapacks they don't allow for their daily snacks. I wonder how I would do it? However the water tumblers for give away sounds good to me... do i have to put pa my son's name (making it personalise?) or just get the tumblers and give it as it is? Are they expensive? Can you suggest where I could get them or check out other give aways? Thanks alot!

birthday party at school

i have a suggestion!! why not buy plastic (like melaware, etc. sorry for naming a brand, i don't know kasi other brands) plates and cups, then use that as your giveaways na? it would be nice if you can label it with the child's name (classmate of your kid), so it can serve as the giveaway, right? i know ikea sells packed colored plates. really nice and should be quite inexpensive. i am not familiar lang with the local ikea sellers. hopefully you can find someone when you google them. good luck!

Re: Birthday Parties

Hello everyone! Help,help.. My son will be celebrating his 7th birthday come May 15. Since we have a tight budget (20k)we are planning to have it at Shakey's with only a few closest friends will be invited, but I'm thinking how am I going to make it real special not like you know the ordinary party that we used to attend in some other fast food chains around. And by the way, is Shakey's "A" ok? Pls. kindly suggest how can I make this day special for our only son without feeling so much hurt on our pockets.

Re: Re: Birthday Parties

Try balloon popping instead of the usual balloon burst. It's much more fun than pabitin or pinata. We did this on my two kids birthday party at Shakey's and the guest had so much fun. We bought 4 different set of prizes (30 items in all), giftwrapped it in 2 shades ( pink and blue), took pictures and printed it in thumbnail size, cut it and gave it to the Shakey's manager in-charge of my kids party. They put it inside the balloons which are included on the party amenities we've paid (100php for each kid). At the end of the games, the host (whose services we got from Dad's Glorietta with the magician of course) announced to the kids to get the balloons (as many as they can because other balloons don't have prizes inside), pop it and claim their prizes. It was like New Year's eve at that moment with all the excitement and popping sound of the balloons echoing inside Shakey's!

Re: Re: Birthday Parties

Hi, creating games/gimiks related to the theme will make it more special. I had 2 small parties for my 2 kids last year and here's what I did:
1. 1st bday party of my daughter held at Shakey's El Pueblo with Teddy Bear party theme. In the invitation, there was a picture of my baby wearing teddy bear ears and the caption "Our little teddy bear is turning 1! Come join the fun". Guests were asked to bring their teddy bears. I made hair bands with teddy bear ears (materials from divisoria) for girls to wear and caps with teddy bear patch for boys. There are 3 DIY sections: I had little dresses sewn for teddy bears and each girl takes home a teddy bear and gets to choose an outfit for their bear (borrowed the idea from build-a-bear workshops except this is the budget version). Girls get to make bracelets and necklaces for their bears. For the boys, they get to decorate their caps using fabric letters which they glue on. For games, I used traditional games with a teddy bear twist - for example, musical chairs but instead of the kids sitting down, they let their bears sit down, the boat is sinking but the bears are included in the count. I also had teddy bear bowling (bought a cheap bowling set with teddy bear pins at toy kingdom) and prizes were given away to the Cutest teddy bear, biggest, smallest, etc. I also showed a slide show of my baby's first year pictures. Shakey's el pueblo has an LCD tv free of charge. Total party cost is 25K for 80 guests including materials, food and venue.

2. For my son's school party, I just ordered food from Jollibee and I made up my own games. He loves super heroes so I made all the games related to the theme. First game: super hero relay. I bought superman and batman accessories - cape, mask and gloves from toy kingdom at 150 each. Divided the class into two teams - one for superman and another for batman. It's like the going to market game except the accessories are superhero-themed. Second game: super hero race. I used all the justice league toys of my son and tied them each to a pencil using yarn. The kids each had their own pencil with superhero attached and they roll the pencil until the superhero goes up. The first one who rolls the whole yarn wins. Its fun to see the kids side by side and the super heroes slowly climbing up. Third game: Using 3 blankets, superman, batman and spiderman. The host will turn his back from the kids and the kids hide under the blankets. The host will then say "All the kids under superman are out". He will do this randomly calling out the superhero's name until there's only one kid left.

I hope I gave you some ideas. Have fun planning your kid's party! I sure enjoyed planning mine.

Hi!

You should try to get in touch with CREATIVE KIDS. They have a multiply website! You can have your daughter and her friends do fun arts and crafts like treasure boxes, etc. and they can take whatever they created themselves home as souveniers!
They're rates are reasonable for the service they provide. You can buy just the kits from them or they can have a "facilitator" or teacher come to help the kids out....

Re: Re: Birthday Parties

for affordable souvenirs you can always go to divisoria. there are a lot of choices there. you could also go for personalized souvenirs which is very popular with other mommies. for your other party needs, you might want to check out http://kiddieparty.ph. there's a comprehensive directory there of different party suppliers.

hi mommies! for my daughter's 1st bday party, we got the services of party time philippines. They provided the catering services which comes with free balloon decors for the whole venue (centerpiece included). For the host, we hired Sugus and we were very pleased with his hosting style. He doesn't do the usual games like bring me, etc. He does super fun games like name that tune (disney edition) that involved all the guests. In effect everybody-even the adults participate.

hi! my son is celebrating

hi! my son is celebrating his 1st birthday in december and i've been thinking of having a sports ball theme. guests could wear sports jerseys and get a prize for it. i want it to be in a village park sana but i'm afraid it'd rain. so another option is to have it at shakey's {my hubby and i love shakey's!} or rent a clubhouse. i know i'd save on venue cost if ill have it at shakey's, not to mention that the food will be served hot and there's a staff to take care of it. but having it at another venue would let me get other food suppliers. i want to have different stalls sana, parang ballgame stalls - sabrett hotdogs, taters nachos & popcorn, peanuts, even beer {for the daddies!}. i've thought about all the other details too! i'll make my own invite - ballgame ticket with all the party details. i'll make make my own loot bags - brown sandwich bag with my son's name. contents would be party favors with sports balls design which i'm planning to order from the u.s. i checked out the prizes and they're affordable. my cousin will be coming home in a couple of months kasi and she could bring them with her. we have a friend who hosts children's parties and he offered his services for free, birthday gift na nya. all the others like balloons and cakes madali lang naman.

baka the moms who have planned their children's parties na could give me suggestions...

for the loot bag - does anybody know a stamp pad maker who could do balls - basketball, soccer ball, baseball & football? parang all the ones i see make names lang. pag wala talaga, malamang i'll print them out na lang.

for the party favors - do we have a local supplier who carries sports balls design kaya? i'm looking at another alternative to save on cost.

for the party decors - is there a balloon supplier who could provide me with sports balls design, yung sports ball ang design sa front and silver lang sa back?

for the souvenir - is there a supplier who would do printing of my son's picture on stress balls? i might able to get a sports design stress balls kasi and i want a picture of my son's face printed on them to make it more personal.

hope to hear your suggestions. thanks in advance!

We had a simple party to

We had a simple party to celebrate our twins' 1st birthday last Saturday, and we spent only P30K for 150 guests (115 adults and 35 kids). I had to DIY a lot of stuff by using art materials I have at home. Breakdown as follows:

Venue: Shakey's Galleria - P23,000
Clowns: Tonio's Clowns of Dad's Megamall - P3,000
2pcs 7" round Cakes and 80pcs Cupcakes w/ icing: Shoppersville Bakeshoppe - P1,560

The rest went to the DIY stuffs which include the invitations, lootbags, piñata, balloon burst & decors, candies and game prizes. Details and some pictures here - http://keithandjovie.blogspot.com

If you have the time to do DIY, I encourage you to do it kase it helps you save a lot! :)

Hi all! Glad to chance upon

Hi all!
Glad to chance upon this site! I do need any help i can get regarding planning kiddie parties. :)

My baby is turning 1 this December and since his my first child, I'm really clueless regarding party planning. :( But due to our very tight budget i can't spare some for a party planner, so i have to do it myself.

My son's invites will surely be DIY. As for the souvenirs i want something useful, cute and affordable (I'd probably scout stuff from 168) I don't have a specific theme in mind yet but I'm considering barney =) And for the party I'm planning to rent a place and hire a caterer and a host/magician/puppeteer.

Is there anyone who knows a venue somewhere near Cainta, Pasig or Ortigas that is affordable enough? And a caterer & host as well? My guest list would approximately include about 100 adults and 30 kids.

Hope i could get some inputs :) Thanks in advance. :)

Re: Hi all! Glad to chance upon

hi... i suggest BOUNCE in Ortigas near Ciudad Grande, the kids will really enjoy the place. They have this giant inflatables that kids and adults will surely love. Their accredited caterer is also ok... very affordable. And there's no corkage fee ask if you want to have your own caterer inside. The owner.. rich and maloy is very accomodating plus their staff norie and anthony.

Hi Mommy kuks, Yup P20K is possible in mcdo or jollibee with around 80guests. That's with party amenities na po. I've been doing research din kse coz my sons are having their birthday next month. You can also choose Shakey's but with a smaller guestlist around 60guests, probably. If you choose to get food lang, and ikaw na bahala sa party amenities. You can also go to Divisoria to buy real cheap party stuff and it will help cut the cost :) HTH! :) http://keithandjovie.blogspot.com

Hi Mitzi and Mommy kuks,

We ourselves have a limited budget on my son's first birthday. We told ourselves not to splurge big time since he is too young anyway for a fancy party which he may not appreciate especially that he is afraid of clowns. So we made it a point to observe what attracts him most. We ended-up celebrating in Jollibee. Jollibee mascot is a big hit to small children - well my son is one of them. With the small budget - everyone went home with a big smile.

my daughter will turn 3 this june and i plan to hold the party in her school with about 10 kids as guest. Id like to focus the party for the children since its is "childrens party' so i plan to do artworks for the kids to participate and a puppet show. Also a cupcake that they will decorate themselves. So i have it all planned but the problem is how do i tell the parents that i dont like them in the party. The venue is spacious enough for thr kids to run around, but with the parents. It would total to around 30 -40 guest in the room. Im thinking of setting up snacks for the perents and guardians in pizza hut downstairs. I think they wont mind. Its a few hours without the hassle of feeding and looking over their kids. I can also set up a video wall, so that they can still watch th party upstairs. But how do I tell them in a manner that they will not be offended? Help mga mommy?

Hi mymelody! I was thinking along the same lines as you were. Its almost my sons 3rd party and I just want a simple party but with a good party host/entertainment.

Ive asked around and the chepest is 6k for hosting, magic, and ventriloquism (with some hosts)

I found this on the net though and it sounds promising: www.kuyamau.net

Now, Ive never seen an actual show but its sounds like a real deal for P6000 bec he includes a 30min puppet show aside from hosting, magic, ventriloquism, fress sound system. So i guess its like you get free puppet show which would normally cost another P3500. Yun nga lang, I guess your puppet show will not be themed.

Hope this helps! Also, if you find any better options pls let me now bec im also scouting for a good, affordable host. THANKS!
